It has always been important to clean and disinfect all equipment used to teach CPR and first-aid courses, but the pandemic has made everyone more conscious about it. Proper equipment sanitation begins before the course with equipment, and continues during the course with the proper disposal at the end of the course.
Here in First Aid Training Greece we do the following
CPR Mannequin
Commonly accepted practices that we follow include:
- We ensure that each student wears gloves during the course and has his personal disinfectant and face shield
- We ensure that each student has a separate set of mannequin lungs for their personal use with that mannequin as well as an individual face shield and wipes. We disinfect all surfaces of the mannequin between students using approved disinfectants spending particular attention to face and mouth/nose cavities. We properly dispose of all wipes, lungs and other barriers at the end of each session. Between participants the mannequin should be wiped down with 70 percent alcohol and left to dry before the next use.
- We remove and replace the mannequin lungs. New lungs should be used for each session.
- After the course we soak reusable mannequin faces in an appropriate disinfectant solution for at least 10 minutes.
- We store it clean and sanitized for the next use.
